The Port of Chittagong is the bigest seaport in Bangladesh, located by the estuary of the Karnaphuli River in Patenga, near the city of Chittagong. It’s a deepwater seaport dominated by trade in containerised manufactured products (especially garments, jute and jute goods, leather products, fertilisers and seafood), raw materials and to a lesser extent passengers. It’s one of the two main sea port of Bangladesh- most of the export and import of the country are handled via this port. Window berthing system was introduced at the seaport on 6th August in 2007, enabling the sea port to provide the arrival and departure times of all ships. Two berths at the port terminal are kept in reserve for emergency. In 2006 the port handled 27 million tones of cargo and 0.8 million tones of containers. The port handled 1.5 million TEUs (twenty equivalent units) containers in 2010-11, up from 12.12 lakh TEUs in the previous year, according to the CPA Traffic Department.

Although the British got the Authority of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in 1760, they Had no Authority Besides Collecting Nominal Taxes. In 1900 The British offered Independent Status to Chittagong Hill Tracts Recognising The Culture and Language of The Hill Tracts Population. But During The Pakistan Period This Status was Abolished, Which Created Anger Among The Hill Population. Moreover, Due to The Construction of The Kaptai Dam in 1960, Thousands of People Became Homeless & Refugee. At this Perspective The Hill Population Revolted Claiming Autonomy. The Sitakunda Eco-park |
The Sitakunda Eco-park is one of the excellent tourist’s spots for the nature lovers in Chittagong. The purpose of this study is to discuss the definition, thought, and characteristics of the ecotourism. This descriptive research describes the principles, status of Sitakunda ecotourism and explores the opportunities in this suburban city. This study explores to what extent the authority achieves these objectives and the impacts of the park on adjacent villagers. More specifically, it highlights park-people relationships and people dependency on park resources. Findings indicate that, as the project was implemented, the area was enriched, with natural regeneration, new plantations and infrastructure development. It has become a new destination for visitors, and nature-based tourism. Tourism provides revenue to the park authority and income to local people. Even though the park is a good instrument for biodiversity conservation, ignoring the dependence of local people on park resources created conflicts between local communities and the park authority.
The park establishment has created some job opportunities, but local people feel that these are inadequate. Suggestions are made to overcome the existing conflicts and to develop an eco-friendly park which would conserve biodiversity and, at the same time, benefit local communities.Chittagong Zoo
