| Kaptai Lake |
Kaptai Lake is one of the excellent tourist’s spots for the nature lovers in Chittagong. Kaptai Lake is an artificial Lake in South-Eastern point of Bangladesh.Construction of the Kaptai Lake was begun in 1956 by the government of East Pakistan. It was dug for the Hydro-Electric plant. It caused a great change in the life of the local community as well as environment. For constructing the Kaptai Lake, government came into possession at about 54,000 acres (220 km2) of farmland.
The Kaptai Lake has drowned almost the whole of the middle-Karnafuli gorge and the lower reaches of the Chengi, Kasalong and Rinkhyong rivers. The shoreline and the Basin of Kaptai Lake are very irregular.It is a wonderful spot for boating and cruising. Parjatan and private operators offer a number of cruises by mechanical boats. One can go to various scenic spots in Shuvalong, Barkal, Longadu, Mainimukh and other areas by boat from Rangamati.
